The piece "Ricochets" for two pianos was composed in 2020. The composition is entirely based on the technique of minimalism. The music sounds in a cohesive, agile tempo and demands clear and precise articulation (staccato). It is performed without pedal, is distinguished by its brightness and virtuosity, and charges with its internal energy. The composer deliberately uses only the upper register of the instruments throughout the piece in order to give the music a special flavor, timbre and coloring. Only in the very last bar in the part of the second piano the pitch "B2" appears as the lowest one in this piece. In the composition the composer applies the technique of imitative writing. "Ricochets" is based on the pattern, just under two bars long, that appears in the part of the first piano in the second measure. It is then repeated and rhythmically varied, giving the music a light and danceable feeling. In the second piano part, this pattern also appears in the second bar, but sounds one octave higher and with a delay of the one eighth note. What is also unusual here is the spatial effect, which is created by the fact that the first piano sounds softer than the second one. The performance implies that the lid of the first instrument should be half opened, with the lid of the second piano fully raised. The ending of the composition comes with the bright climax (on ffff), abruptly and unexpectedly breaking off. The piece "Ricochettes" for two pianos can be useful for professional composers and pianists interested in new contemporary and virtuoso repertoire.
