The piece "Giraffe’s Flight by an Aerostat" for alto saxophone, viola and cello was composed in 2015. The composition is based on the technique of minimalism. The piece has a scherzo and comic coloring, and is distinguished by its unusual rhythmic pulsation and variable time signature. The main music element is the pattern in the alto saxophone part. It is performed staccato, has a jerky motion, and is also filled with grace notes. This gives the music elasticity and flexibility. The pattern rhythmically and gradually shifts through semitones in an ascending motion. The piece uses almost the entire sound range of the alto saxophone: from the sound of the “D3” to the highest “A-flat5.” The string instruments play pizzicato throughout the piece, which also gives the music a light and airy effect. Their line also gradually rises upward in semitones, but these shifts do not coincide with the shifts in the alto saxophone part, due to which polytonality periodically arises. After going through all twelve semitones up, the original key returns back, only with the strings sounding one octave higher. After which, having shifted another half-tone up, the piece suddenly ends. The composition "Giraffe's Flight by an Aerostat" for alto saxophone, viola and cello can be useful for professional composers and musicians, as well as various ensembles interested in new contemporary repertoire.
